Answer!

It depends on your lashes, and my top brand is Lancome. They have held the title of best selling mascaras for several decades.

Pay attention to the detailed description for mascaras. If you have thin lashes, you will want a volumizing mascara typically. If your lashes are already pretty long and thick, a basic mascara that gives you a nice lift like the Lancome – Definicils Mascara. They have mascara for curl as well.

I highly recommend Lancome mascara for whichever need you may have. Also take note of the Lancome – Cils Booster XL is an AMAZING mascara base that helps thicken and lengthen the lashes. I can NOT go a day without it! Put this on, let it dry, and then apply mascara. If you aren’t really looking for drama, and your lashes are a pretty good length/thickness then you probably won’t want to do this.

Also a trick for dramatic lashes is to apply mascara one layer at a time and let it dry in between.

An eyeshadow base.

They’ve become pretty popular lately, and one of the most effective ones I’ve used are the Paint Pots by MAC – $16.50. Your best bet is to pick a shade closest to your skin tone.

If you have really oily eyelids, it would be best to pick one that is matte. (No shimmer or shine)

I would like to first and foremost say: Foundation is a matter of preference. I’ve meet women who can not STAND liquid on their skin (granted a lot of times the product was not right for them – meaning the finish and look they wanted liquid did not provide)

Here are some questions you need to ask yourself when picking what type of foundation:

1. What skin type am I? Oily, Combination, Dry?

This matters because this affects how the product will feel on your skin. If you are oily and use a cream foundation or in some cases liquid foundation, it will feel heavy, or gross. If you are dry and use a powder foundation that gives a “matte” or very dry look, you will be miserable.

2. What look am I going for?

Most women say “natural”. Well that will vary depending on the person – which then varies which product you need. Honestly, the trick is having someone pick what you need based on your skin type and what look/finish you want, who KNOWS what they are doing. 3. Are their any skin issues I would like to cover?

Meaning under eye circles, acne scaring, skin discoloration, etc. If it is minor what you want to cover, a good powder foundation will do the trick. PRESS the powder over the skin where you would like more coverage and most powders will cover for you. If it is major, a concealer will do the trick. I’ll cover concealers in another post. If the discoloration is over more than 20-30% of your face, I suggest liquid to even out the tone of your skin. Again it’s preference. There are some good powder foundations that can cover like a liquid but it depends on the type of skin.

As you notice, you see a lot of “it depends”, “it varies”, “possibly”, “should do”. Honestly what you need is specific to your skin. Everyone has different needs, and wants. Please keep this in mind when spotting ads for foundation.

Also, I DO recommend if you wear a liquid foundation, please take a basic powder that doesn’t even need color to it, and apply it over top. This will help the finish of the foundation to last longer. If you would like even MORE coverage over your liquid foundation, apply a powder foundation over it, just don’t apply too much.

Helloooo fellow bloggers, makeup junkies, and friends! I want to start this blog off by starting with some very basic DONT’S.

We will get to do the DO’S next but the DONT’S are most important since that is what will get you into trouble.

TOP FIVE

1. Do not believe makeup ads in magazines, or on TV. They are NOT real. There is always an element of airbrushing especially in photos.

2. Do not compare yourself with the models in these ads and buy what they are wearing. You can not magically transform into them no matter what product it is! If it looks good on Rihanna it may not look good on you.

3. Do not buy the latest product out on the market without doing a little research. The industry has done an amazing job with promoting the latest product, and a lot of times it is not that great, there is just a lot of hype.

4. Do not buy a mascara based on it’s promises! It depends on your lashes and any other needs – ex: oily lids that can make mascara run. If your lashes are short, look for a lengthening mascara. If your lashes are long but thin, look for a volumizing mascara. As far as what to buy, you pay for what you get especially when it comes to mascara. Drugstore brand mascaras tend not to last nearly as long as a department store brand and will clump up after only a few uses. If you buy a drugstore brand mascara at $9 each every two weeks or buy a department store brand mascara one time every 6 weeks for $22, what’s the better value? Keep this in mind while mascara shopping!

5. This is not makeup related but important. Do not go without an eye cream! This is crucial and you will pay the price later. No matter your ethnicity, an eye cream is a need to keep the skin around your eyes hydrated. You will slow down the aging process if you make a point to apply it at least every night. Now finding the right eye cream is all about PREFERENCE. Going into a Sephora and trying ones they have is your best bet. They will also sample them out if you would like to take it a step further and try it for a few days to see how your skin reacts and if you really like the feel of it on your skin. It is not good if the eye cream feels sticky, heavy, or burns the skin or your eyes.
